The Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA) 2026 results are set to be unveiled on June 17, offering a comprehensive guide to exceptional wines sourced from acclaimed winemakers worldwide. This prestigious competition, now in its 23rd year, features rigorous blind tasting evaluations conducted by a panel of experts.
With nearly 17,000 submissions this year, the judging panel consisted of 245 professionals from 35 different countries, including 24 Master Sommeliers and 63 Masters of Wine. Andrew Jefford, one of the Co-Chairs of the DWWA, expressed confidence in the quality of entries, stating, "We had a fantastic quality of entries this year," emphasizing the vibrant discussions that are crucial to the judging process.
Among the accolades, the coveted Best in Show awards represent only a small fraction of the total wines evaluated—just 50 medals will be distributed, making them extremely prestigious. The Platinum and Gold tiers also maintain low percentages of wines awarded, highlighting the competition’s commitment to excellence.
In addition to recognizing standout wines, the DWWA has initiated a Top Value Gold category to commend wines priced under £15. This category has grown, reflecting the DWWA’s mission to acknowledge quality offerings at various price points.
Notably, sustainability has become a focal point of the DWWA. This year, more than 20,000 single-use plastic bags were replaced with reusable cotton alternatives, and an effort was made to minimize the waste generated during the evaluation process. The use of the Coravin wine preservation system during the judging phases is being trialed to reduce the need for numerous sample bottles.
Anticipation is building as lovers of fine wine await the announcement of the DWWA 2026 results. To get updates, interested parties can sign up for alerts through the Decanter website.
