Discovering Moreish: Elegant Wines from Dão and Bairrada, Portugal (Plus a Special Spanish Selection)

Luis Lopes, known for his work with the acclaimed Dão winery Dominio de Açor, has embarked on a personal project since 2013, producing elegant wines from the regions of Dão and Bairrada in Portugal, along with one from Spain. The project’s name is inspired by a Portuguese phrase, "Beber e chorar por mais," meaning "drinking and crying for more." These wines were showcased at the Simplesmente Vinho event in February 2026.

Moreish Roupeiro 2024, Dão, Portugal
This wine is made from grapes from a vineyard planted in 1930, recently pulled out. It offers a textural experience with layers of lovely pear and citrus fruit, exhibiting a grainy and stony character. Rating: 94/100

Moreish Palhete 2024, Dão, Portugal
A blend of red and white grapes, this wine undergoes cold maceration for four days before being pressed partway through fermentation into barrels. It delivers freshness with a fine structure, featuring delightful cherry and raspberry flavors with a citrus finish. Rating: 94/100

This wine, which is a mix of half oak and half stainless steel fermentation and undergoes malolactic fermentation, stands out with its chiselled, stony profile and long, bright linear citrus fruit. Rating: 93/100

A Garnacha aging in foudre, this wine has a textured profile with some oxidative development and ripe strawberry notes, leaning more towards a mineral character. Rating: 90/100
