Celebrating the Future of Wine: La Nouvelle Garde Hosts an Unforgettable Crozes-Hermitage Party

In 2023, a new association known as La Nouvelle Garde de Crozes-Hermitage was established in the northern Rhône, aiming to unite the next generation of winemakers in the region’s most significant cru. Sandra Combat, a young winegrower, highlighted the need for camaraderie among the producers: “The idea is we realized we are working here in Crozes-Hermitage, but we didn’t really know each other.” The Combat winery hosted an event to foster connections among members, encouraging them to showcase their wines and celebrate the dynamic spirit of Crozes-Hermitage, which is attracting fresh talent back to the family domaines.

The evening began as a formal tasting, allowing winegrowers to present two of their wines. As the event progressed, it evolved into a more informal gathering where attendees mingled and shared their wines, creating an atmosphere of collaboration and community amongst the producers.

The wines showcased during the event included a variety of exciting selections:

  • Michelas Crozes-Hermitage Blanc ‘Les Grapiats’ 2023 (magnum) – A blend of Roussanne, with a pleasing ripeness and depth, scored 94/100.
  • Domaine des Louis Crozes-Hermitage Blanc ‘R&M’ 2023 – An intense wine with vibrant yellow plum and citrus notes, receiving a score of 94/100.
  • Domaine Les Entrefaux Crozes-Hermitage Blanc ‘Les Pends’ 2021 – Known for its minerality and complexity, this wine scored 94/100.
  • Yann Chave Crozes-Hermitage ‘Le Rouvre’ 2023 (from magnum) – A bold wine with an intricate flavor profile, awarded a remarkable 96/100.
  • Domaine Vendome Crozes-Hermitage Blanc ‘Lehm’ 2023 – Displaying bold fruit with a beautiful texture, it received a score of 95/100.

These wines not only reflect the diversity of the Crozes-Hermitage terroir but also the growing enthusiasm and commitment of a new generation dedicated to crafting exceptional wines from this historic region. The exemplary turnout at the Combat winery illustrates the significance of events that promote both networking and the appreciation of local wine and culture.
