Baudains: Five Rising Italian Talents to Watch in 2025

By | 16 January 2025

Saranno Famosi nel Vino is a unique wine tasting event held annually in Florence, inspired by the popular Italian TV talent show of the same name, meaning "They will be famous." Now in its third year, the event aims to spotlight lesser-known wine producers from across Italy. The event is open to any winery that has bottled a new product in the last decade, but most participants come from more recent vintages.

This year, around 70 wineries participated, featuring a blend of newcomers and established family businesses revitalized by a new generation. Many producers remain under the radar due to limited production, obscure grape varieties, or their origins in lesser-known regions. A significant majority of the showcased wines had not been previously reviewed, underlining the untapped potential within the Italian wine landscape, despite its widespread acclaim.

The event has become a treasure trove of discoveries for wine enthusiasts. Here are five notable producers to look out for in the coming years:

  1. Cantalupo – Hailing from the heart of Monferrato, they emphasize organic practices and focus on native varieties, especially the rare and unique Grignolino.

  2. Saraceni – Based in a hidden corner of Liguria, they craft vibrant and aromatic wines using traditional methods, showcasing the region’s potential far from the typical coastal offerings.

  3. Terra dei Vespri – This winery combines history and innovation, producing rich, characterful reds that reflect the volcanic soils of Sicily.

  4. Cascina Cattaneo – Located in the outskirts of Lombardy, this vineyard specializes in lesser-known varietals, offering distinctive flavors that highlight the region’s heritage.

  5. Feudo d’Ugni – A newer player from Puglia with a focus on sustainability, they use techniques that boost biodiversity in the vineyard while crafting complex, minerally whites.

These producers exemplify the new wave of talent emerging in the Italian wine scene, deserving of attention as they pave their way to recognition in the upcoming years. For those keen on Italian wines, the expansive diversity and quality offered by these wineries represent a world of opportunity waiting to be explored.
