Chianti Classico producers have launched an engaging Massive Online Open Course aimed at anyone interested in enhancing their knowledge of the region’s renowned wines and olive oils.
This free course is tailored for sommeliers, wine professionals, journalists, and wine enthusiasts alike. It consists of five modules featuring short, informative videos produced by leading experts, including Decanter contributor Michaela Morris, Michael Godel, Alessandro Masnaghetti, and others. After viewing the content, participants will take a brief final test, and successful candidates will receive an official certificate from the Consorzio Vino e Olio Chianti Classico, acknowledging their newfound expertise.
Funded by the EU, this initiative is part of a three-year project to promote awareness of Chianti Classico’s unique offerings. Giovanni Manetti, president of the Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico, described the online platform as a valuable resource for sharing information about the wine and olive oil denominations, essentially serving as a business card for the region.
The Chianti Classico Consorzio, Italy’s oldest wine consortium, is poised to enhance its influence with around 500 member wineries. It covers the historic core of Chianti, nestled between Florence and Siena in Tuscany, and is known for its rigorous aging and blending standards. As a result, Chianti Classico wines are often recognized for their complexity, structure, and age-worthy potential.
With an increasing desire for deeper knowledge of the region’s products, the Consorzio is committed to educating not only industry professionals but also avid wine consumers.
