Exploring the Highlights of Kelvin Feku Grenache Noir 2022 from WO Wellington, South Africa

By | 1 May 2024

Kelvin Feku is the assistant winemaker for Alex Milner, known for his work at Natte Valleij. Originally a refugee from Zimbabwe, Kelvin found his passion in South Africa’s rich wine industry, and his name graces his own label for the first time with this release. This Grenache is derived from the dryland of Wellington, cultivated on malmesbury shale and glenrosa soils. The grapes were carefully pressed with traditional basket techniques and left untouched in foudre for nine months. Earning a lovely crimson color in the process, this light red wine is quite charming with its fragrant wild raspberry, crunchy cherry, smoked plum, tobacco, and bracing branchiness, further elevated by the aromas of roiboos tea persisting on the saline finish. A pleasing and pure core, lively acidity, and softly spoken tannins make it drink-ready (preferably slightly chilled). An upcoming winemaker to keep your eyes on. 92/100.
