Tales of the Macallan Volume II was created in 1949 and it remained maturing for more than seven decades before it was finally bottled in 2022.
This uniquely uncommon single malt is a tribute to Alexander Reid, the man who established the distillery in Speyside back in 1824. Just 344 bottles of this scotch have been released worldwide.
The recommended retail price (rrp) for this whiskey is set at £77,500, but bottles have been observed to sell for more than £100,000 in specialized stores.
Online merchant Master of Malt has been provided with two bottles for sale, which they decided to offer via a lottery.
Collectors may participate in the lottery for an opportunity to purchase one of these exceptional whiskies. Two individuals will be picked for this opportunity by Master of Malt on Wednesday, April 10th. The winners will then be charged the retail price of £77,500 and their prized bottles will be shipped to them.
‘Following the huge demand we experienced the previous time we had one in our inventory, we have decided to opt for a lottery-based distribution,’ shared the retailer.
The entry period for the lottery has begun and will end at midnight on Tuesday, April 9th. Individuals with a passion for whisky can register with Master of Malt during this period.
This 73-year-old single malt whisky has been crafted to embody the essence of Reid, delivering flavours of black cherries, ginger sponge, and dark chocolate orange. This leads to an extraordinarily long and complex finish, complete with a sweet, lingering smokiness.
Euan Kennedy, the lead whisky creator at The Macallan, handpicked the beverage from a solitary cask. This liquid was bottled in a uniquely handcrafted Lalique container that was then placed inside an 800-page manually bound book.
This book narrates the tale of Reid’s establishment of the distillery, enhanced by the illustrious work of famed British illustrator Andrew Davidson.
Half a year ago, a singular bottle of The Macallan 1926 single malt whisky broke the global auction record for any wine or spirits bottle. It fetched a staggering price of nearly £2.2m at a Sotheby’s auction held in London.
