Francesco was introduced to the art of winemaking at a young age of 14, following the footsteps of his grandfather. He is a proponent of traditional methods and employs the entirely organic process in the Sciara Nuova contrada. All his wines are made in palmento, they are foot-trodden and moved by gravity.
The Francesco Modica Dedicato Etna Rosato 2020 stands out with its striking golden appearance. It possesses a unique flavour that mingles spicy fruit and subtle earthy tones. Hints of stewed plum and spice add to its complexity. With a touching old school charm, it’s a finely detailed and compelling wine which scores 92/100.
The Francesco Modica Sciara Nuova Etna Rosso 2019 on the other hand, catches the eye with its faded hue and exhibits an oxidative nose of apples and red fruits. The palate is smooth with a nice texture and the oxidative nature blends well with its spicy detail, giving it a score of 90/100.

This has a spell in barrel. Supple and refined with fine-grained cherry and plum fruit with some spicy, oxidative characters. Very traditional and mellow with some charm to it, finishing with some earthy hints. 91/100
