Decanter contributor and DWWA Acting Regional Chair for Chile, Amanda Barnes, triumphed at the first 67 Pall Mall Global Wine Communicator Awards ceremony, capturing the Berkmann Award for Best All Round Wine Communicator. Barnes was honored with a barrel-shaped trophy and a £2,000 payout, presented by Rupert Berkmann in London’s Sinfonia Smith Square, an event that was broadcast online via 67PallMall.tv.
Traveling from Argentina for the event, Barnes expressed excitement over her recognition for contributions to Decanter, World of Fine Wine, as well as her engagements on YouTube and podcasts.
Fellow Decanter writers and DWWA judges Peter Richards MW and Susie Barrie MW received the Best Global Wine Communicator in Audio Award for their podcast Wine Blast. Tom Hewson, Malu Lambert and Matt Walls, all renowned Decanter contributors, were finalists in different award categories.
Judged by a panel of six from four continents, the 67 Awards aims to celebrate exceptional wine communicators globally, including those specializing in written, video, and audio content. Event founders and dignitaries including Richard Hemming MW, 67 Pall Mall CEO Grant Ashton, and chair of judges Elaine Chukan Brown shared insights before the announcement of the awards. Chukan Brown highlighted, “The finalists are an incredible group of communicators, offering valuable lessons through diverse media avenues and cultural perspectives.”
67 Pall Mall, renowned as the first private members’ club devoted to wine aficionados, boasts locations in London, Verbier, and Singapore with plans to expand into Bordeaux, Beaune, Melbourne, and Hong Kong. CEO Grant Ashton stated, “These Awards are our way of supporting everyone that brings the love of wine to a wider audience.”
