The transition to the next generation in Austrian wineries often presents challenges, as younger family members with diverse ideas take over. However, Katharina Gessl managed this transition with keen insight. In 2022, she began her journey by taking over four vineyard plots covering 2.5 hectares. This cautious approach allows her to maintain the existing customer base accustomed to her parents’ styles while incorporating her own vision into the wines.
All the vines under her care have been cultivated organically since 2009, and each year she expands her repertoire, bringing her total vineyard area to 9 hectares. Her winemaking philosophy leans towards low intervention and natural methods, producing wines that showcase her unique perspective.
Among her notable creations are several wines, including:
-
