Exploring the Exceptional Biodynamic Wines of Masiero in Italy’s Veneto Region

By | 22 July 2025

Franco and Francesca Masiero established their biodynamic winery in 1996 in the Veneto region, nestled within the volcanic hills near Vicenza. Since 2015, their daughter Giulia Masiero has joined the family enterprise. The winery spans three hectares, cultivating various varietals including Pinot Noir, Merlot, and old vine Garganega, Tai Rosso, Chardonnay, and Pinot Grigio across volcanic and limestone soils.

During the Sublime wine festival in Berlin in May 2025, I had the pleasure of tasting several of Masiero’s wines:

  • Masiero Giusto Remix NV: This red is a blend of three vintages featuring 30% Pinot Gris. It presents a faded color, a spicy profile with vivid sour cherries and dark plums. Notably grainy, it balances well with fresh acidity. Rated 91/100.

  • Masiero Campo da Calcio 2022: A Merlot with a light extraction, this wine is matured in concrete, resulting in a supple character with red cherries and plums. Juicy and stony, it exhibits good energy, earning a score of 92/100.

  • Masiero Urban 2020: Leading with Merlot and also aged in concrete, this blend showcases a bright, vivid acidity complemented by mineral notes and sweet fruit. A delightful sour twist finishes it off, rated 92/100.

  • Masiero Verdugo 2018: Sourced from volcanic soils, this Merlot offers a juicy and bright experience, with a spicy character and some woody nuances. Its dynamic range and good acidity grant it an impressive 93/100 score.
