I recently purchased Waitrose No 1 Don Gaspar Dry Amontillado Sherry with the intention of using it in a special recipe. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find it to be an exceptional wine on its own. With its current promotional price at Waitrose, it’s an excellent choice for anyone who enjoys a quality sherry without breaking the bank.
This Amontillado, produced by Lustau, boasts an 18% alcohol content and is notably well-priced. The wine presents a complex aroma featuring honey, old wood, and hints of zesty citrus. On the palate, it is dry yet rich, revealing savory, spicy notes complemented by crystalline citrus fruits. Its depth and complexity are remarkable for the price, making it a beautiful and layered wine that evolves as it breathes. I would rate it a solid 92 out of 100, especially considering it retails for around £11.50, currently on offer from its usual £14.50.
