Exploring Poreira: The Exquisite Douro Wines of Jorge Moriera

By | 26 April 2026

It was in 2001 that Jorge Moreira launched Poeira, embarking on his personal winemaking journey after previously working with Real Compania Velha. By 2002, he was also the winemaker at Quinta de La Rosa. I’ve been following his wines since their inception and have always appreciated his philosophy of selecting north-facing vineyards, harvesting early, and prioritizing focus and elegance over mere power.

Moreira produces a white wine from Alvarinho, distinguishing between two styles: Poeira Branco, crafted from vines that thrive in stonier soils and ripen slowly, and Pó de Poeira, made from grapes with smaller canopies that enjoy greater sun exposure.
