I recently tasted the Little Pomona Ripple Egremont Russet Unoaked Still Cider 2022, crafted by the renowned Little Pomona in Herefordshire. Even though it’s technically a cider, its remarkable vinous character compelled me to highlight it.
This cider, with an alcohol content of 8.4%, features the Egremont Russet apple variety, often likened to Chardonnay in the wine world. The appearance is slightly cloudy, hinting at its sophistication. On the nose, you’ll find refreshing notes of fresh apple, followed by a palate that is dry, grainy, and well-structured. It showcases a pleasant acidity that allows it to perform beautifully at the table, finishing with a long, spicy note that hints at fantastic food pairing potential. Its finesse truly stood out to me, earning it a score of 9/10.
