Gosset 21 Ans de Cave à Minima Extra Brut: Elevating the Art of Champagne to New Heights

By | 8 January 2025

Gosset Champagne, known as the oldest wine house in Champagne, has introduced its latest and most exclusive offering: the 21 Ans de Cave a Minima Extra Brut. This wine reflects the creative spirit fostered by the Cointreau family, who have owned the house for the last thirty years. Odilon de Varine, the chef de cave, along with his predecessor Jean-Pierre Mareigner, has taken this heritage and added a modern twist, developing a series of Non-Vintage blends with extended cellar maturation.

The Compte d’Âge series began with the 15 Ans de Cave a Minima and has grown to include different vintage blends that focus on their terroir without the constraints of traditional methods. The 21 Ans de Cave a Minima Extra Brut is crafted from the 2000 vintage, incorporating grapes from prestigious crus in the region, such as Ambonnay, Avize, and Bouzy. This release stands out for its purity and minimal use of reserve wines which aims to maintain freshness.

During a recent tasting in London, Thibaut Le Mailloux and Richard Nunn showcased the exquisite characteristics of the 21 Ans de Cave a Minima Extra Brut, which is a blend of 57% Chardonnay and 43% Pinot Noir. The wine presents an alluring aroma profile with notes of quince and white mushroom, while its palate is marked by a rich silkiness complemented by a refreshing finish.

For wine enthusiasts and collectors, this release is particularly special as only 1,200 bottles were produced, making it a rare find on the market. Priced at approximately $440 or £285, the 21 Ans de Cave a Minima Extra Brut is expected to be a sought-after addition to any fine wine collection.
