The winners of this year’s search to find the best places in the world to drink wine.
The hospitality world’s attention was focused on London last night as The World of Fine Wine unveiled the winners of the prestigious World’s Best Wine Lists Awards 2024.
WFW editor and The World’s Best Wine Lists 2024 chairman Neil Beckett and WFW food editor and The World’s Best Wine Lists 2024 judge Francis Percival led the ceremony at Glaziers Hall, which drew a packed crowd of sommeliers, restaurateurs, and bar owners, including representatives from an impressive number of shortlisted businesses who had made the trip from as far afield as Australia and California.
Leading the list of winners was Pappas Bros Steakhouse, with the Houston, Texas, restaurant picking up both Best Long Wine List and the Wine List of the Year awards, while Park Hotel Vossevangen in Norway overcame strong competition from previous winners to secure The Champions’ League Best Overall Wine List 2024 and The Champions’ League Wine-by-the-Glass List 2024.
The two principal victories contributed to a robust World’s Best Wine Lists 2024 showing for both the USA and Norway, with the USA claiming 11 awards that evening, and Vino Bar in Ålesund, world leader in the Best Wine Bar List category, enhancing Park Hotel Vossevangen’s dual Champions’ League victories.

Natives of London will be glad to find that their city’s reputation for being one of the priciest places in the world to dine out was contested by Doppo winning the World’s Best Value Wine List title, while London venues also led the poll for World’s Best Medium-Sized Wine List (Petrus by Gordon Ramsay) and Best Wine-by-the-Glass List with Coravin® (Brooklands by Claude Bosi at The Peninsula). Moreover, the truly international nature of the awards was underscored by winners from Australia, France, Italy, Mauritius, Macau, and Switzerland.
In his opening remarks, Beckett reflected on what he called “another difficult year” for the hospitality sector, citing “the aftermath of Covid, staff shortages, soaring interest rates, spiralling costs, consumer spending concerns, and political uncertainty” as key contributors to a trading environment that has been especially harsh for small businesses.
“It is all the more inspiring and uplifting to see how many establishments of all kinds have managed to adapt and to survive—and how many excellent new ones have opened their doors for the first time,” Beckett said. “Best New Wine List was again one of the most exciting and most closely contested categories this year. And astonishingly no fewer than five new wine lists managed to win the global title in other categories—a remarkable achievement.”
The World’s Best Wine Lists is a global awards program created in 2014 by the multi-award-winning publication The World of Fine Wine.
Judged according to a rigorous protocol by independent, international panels of leading professionals, including World Champion Sommeliers, Master Sommeliers, Masters of Wine, and highly respected wine writers, it is the first awards program to acknowledge the crucial importance of a good wine selection—regardless of size—in the modern dining experience all round the world.
