This exciting wine project, owned by the Sander family, is situated in a lesser-known winegrowing area known as Sondagskloof, located within the Walker Bay region of South Africa. To reach Sondagskloof, you follow the R43 towards Hermanus, but instead of veering into the popular Hemel-en-Arde Valley, you continue past the town of Stanford. The area lies approximately halfway between Hermanus and Elim, about 17 km from the cold sea.
Sondagskloof is characterized by its altitude and an ideal climate for growing cooler-climate grape varieties. The vineyard, known as Cold Mountain, covers a substantial 400 hectares, although only 17 hectares are under vine. Wade Sander creates exceptional wines here, drawing on his training at Elsenberg and experience spanning several harvests, including six years at Mullineux. He operates alongside his brother Brett, who manages the rest of the farm. Wines from this estate were showcased during ProWein in March 2026.
The vineyard practices organic and biodynamic farming methods, enhancing the quality and character of their wines.
