Discover La Biancara: Meet Italy’s Renowned Natural Wine Producers, Angiolino and Alessandro Maule

By | 9 May 2026

Angiolino Maule is a prominent figure in Italy’s natural wine movement. He and his wife, Rosamaria, began their journey in the late 1970s when they opened a pizzeria. With the savings they accumulated, they purchased a farm named La Biancara, which also included some vineyards. They continued their hospitality business while producing their first wines using conventional methods in 1988. However, their engagement with other winegrowers who were focused on natural winemaking sparked a shift in their approach. This transition wasn’t without challenges, but by 2006, Angiolino founded the VinNatur wine association, which is recognized for its innovative practices in cultivating grapes and winemaking.

Located in the Veneto, just northeast of Soave, La Biancara covers 18 hectares across 13 plots near Gambellara. The primary grape grown here is Garganega, along with notable varieties like Merlot and Grenache (locally known as Tai rosso).

Angiolino’s philosophy and practices have been supported by two of his four sons, Alessandro and Tommaso, who work alongside him in the vineyards and cellar. Their current wine portfolio includes several unique offerings, showcasing the essence of their land:
