Discovering Delights: Two Standout Wines from Frederick Stevenson in South Australia

By | 17 August 2025

Frederick Stevenson, a naturally oriented winegrower in South Australia, produces a range of compelling wines. Recently, I had the opportunity to taste two of his standout creations.

The first, Frederick Stevenson Chardonnay 2022 from the Adelaide Hills, showcases an impressive 12.8% alcohol content. Sourced from a single site in the Piccadilly Valley, this wine is lively and energetic, exhibiting a mineral character complemented by lovely acidity. Its juicy and refined profile, along with a hint of salinity, contributes to a sense of precision, earning a 94/100 rating.

The second offering, Frederick Stevenson Marsanne Roussanne 2023 from the Barossa region, comes in at 12.4% alcohol. This blend includes a small portion of Riesling and features 2-4 days of skin contact, depending on the specific parcel. The wine is textural and tangy with vibrant acidity, showcasing a mineral focus and a chalky quality to the fruit. Its fine structure grants it a 94/100 rating as well.

For those interested in exploring these wines further, they are available through UK agent Les Caves de Pyrene.
