Exploring the Charm of Mâconnais: A Journey Through Domaines Auvigue

By | 11 August 2025

Auvigue is a distinguished entity within the Maison Jean Loron, one of the oldest and largest wineries located in Beaujolais and southern Bourgogne. The roots of Auvigue trace back to 1946 when Francis Auvigue, the great grandfather of the current head Sylvain Brenas-Auvigue, established a negociant business aimed at promoting the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation, which had been recognized in 1936.

Francis left his estate in Solutré to his son and relocated to Charnay-les-Mâcon to create a small négoce in collaboration with friends who owned vineyards. By the 1970s, his grandsons Jean-Pierre and Michel Auvigue took control of the business and began acquiring their own vines in Pouilly-Fuissé.

In 2016, Sylvain took over the familial operations and, in 2017, alongside Maison Loron, they acquired a domain in Fuissé encompassing 6.5 hectares of vineyards. Auvigue now manages 8 hectares of vineyards in Pouilly-Fuissé, sourcing grapes for their Mâcon wines, as they do not own any plots there.

The winery is shifting towards organic viticulture for its domaine wines and is introducing trees around the vineyards to enhance biodiversity. They employ wild yeasts and full malolactic fermentation in their winemaking process.
