Sogrape is a prominent wine company known for its diverse wine portfolio, but it also boasts exquisite offerings such as Barca Velha, widely regarded as Portugal’s most celebrated still red wine. This iconic wine has been crafted since the 1950s and is only released in outstanding vintages. Recently, these exceptional wines were showcased at the Vinha da Casa event in Lisbon in May 2025.

Casa Ferreirinha Vinha Grande 2022 from Douro, Portugal, is an affordable option at €10.99. It offers stunning floral blackcurrant aromas with a touch of olive. The palate presents fresh and engaging fruit flavors, complemented by a nice grip and purity, along with notes of gravel, tar, olive, and spice. Rating: 93/100.

Casa Ferreirinha Callabriga 2022 showcases 100% Douro Superior fruit, exhibiting floral freshness and fine characteristics. The blend of red and black cherries is accentuated by a hint of spicy grip. This wine is elegant and warm with a well-structured tannin profile. Rating: 94/100.

Sogrape Casa Ferreirinha Quinta de Leda 2021 marks a shift in Barca Velha’s production from Vale Meão to Quinta de Leda in the late 1980s. This wine features an impressive structure, density, and good acidity—an expression of stylish, intense fruit. Rating: 94/100.

Sogrape Casa Ferreirinha Quinta da Leda 2020, with 14% alcohol, is composed of 43% Touriga Franca, 37% Touriga Nacional, 11% Tinto Cão, 5% Tinta Roriz, and 4% Sousão. After being destemmed and aged in French oak (50% new), its aromas present a focused bouquet of floral cherries and berries with savory olive and spice hints. The palate is fresh with vibrant acidity and well-managed tannins, reminiscent of a well-crafted Super Tuscan. Rating: 95/100.

Lastly, Sogrape Casa Ferreirinha Barca Velha 2011 features 14.5% alcohol and comprises 30,000 bottles released that year, along with some magnums. This wine is remarkable for its savory, spicy complexity with flavors of cherries, blackberries, and fine spices, leading to an expressive palate with depth and refined notes of cedar and spice. Rating: 96/100.
