Exploring Three Sticks Wines: A Hidden Gem in Sonoma’s Russian River Valley

By | 22 November 2024

Three Sticks Wines is a prominent winery in Sonoma County, specifically within the Russian River Valley, owned by Bill Price, affectionately known as ‘Billy Three Sticks’. Price has amassed a collection of six vineyards in Sonoma, two of which are located in this celebrated region. His journey began in 1997 with the purchase of the renowned Durell Vineyard, known for its exceptional Chardonnay. By 2002, he crafted his first wine from this vineyard, a Durell Pinot Noir.

Currently, approximately 35% of Price’s vineyards contribute to the production of Three Sticks wines, with three of these being monopole vineyards. In total, Price cultivates 325 acres of vines, producing around 12,000 cases annually.

The winery features a charming tasting room situated in an exquisitely restored adobe building from 1842, located in downtown Sonoma. During a recent visit, I had the opportunity to sit down with Prema Kerollis, the general manager, who previously collaborated with Price at Texas Pacific Group, and Rob Harris, the vineyards and farming manager.
