Uncorking Excellence: Highlights of Gérard Bertrand An 1152 Cahors Malbec 2020

By | 4 October 2024

Cahors, located in the southwest region of France, is renowned as the land of Malbec. It’s a delightful area known for crafting exquisite wines, although it currently faces some significant climatic hurdles, particularly due to frost. It’s encouraging to see leading producer Gérard Bertrand showing interest in this region, and the resulting wine is truly impressive.

With an alcohol content of 13.5%, this wine beautifully showcases the essence of Cahors. It features ripe, smooth black cherry and blackberry flavors, complemented by a touch of sour cherry and a hint of blackcurrant. The wine possesses both brightness and focus, despite reaching full ripeness. Its structure is well-defined, with no noticeable oak influence, allowing the vibrant fruit to shine through. The wine also displays a pleasing grip and depth, which I find particularly appealing. This is authentic Cahors. 93/100
