Exploring the Yarra Valley: A Deep Dive into Luke Lambert’s Winemaking Excellence

By | 23 November 2025

Luke Lambert crafts wine from the northern section of the Yarra Valley, where the soil consists of granite and granitic sand. His wines primarily come from the Denton View Hill vineyard, located near Yarra Glen. The production process utilizes neutral large format oak barrels and emphasizes low-intervention winemaking.

Originally from Brisbane, Luke’s passion for wine grew through his visits to France and Italy, which inspired him to pursue a wine science degree at Charles Sturt University. Starting his journey as a garagiste, he has maintained that ethos as his vineyard project has expanded.

Recently, Luke acquired land and established a Nebbiolo vineyard named Sparkletown, featuring a variety of clones. This 1.6-hectare, steep plot, planted in 2019, has yet to yield its first wines. He also plans to release an array of Nebbiolo wines sourced from different regions in Victoria.

Among his notable creations are:

Luke Lambert Chardonnay 2021 Yarra Valley, Australia

  • Lively and pure with an intense character. Features a pithy core of sweet fruit. Rated 94/100.

Luke Lambert Syrah 2023 Yarra Valley, Australia

  • Comprising 80% whole bunch grapes, this wine is destemmed to lightly crush the fruit. It showcases floral notes alongside blackberry, black cherry, and plum, delivering a vivid, peppery density. Rated 95/100.

Luke Lambert Nebbiolo 2022 Yarra Valley, Australia

  • This wine presents juicy and vital characteristics, featuring lovely raspberry fruit and hints of red cherry. Well-balanced with a bright acidity, it exemplifies a superb expression of Nebbiolo. Rated 95/100.

Additionally, the older Luke Lambert Nebbiolo 2012 Yarra Valley reflects his experience working in Piedmont. Sourced from both the rocky Jansz vineyard and the granitic Denton vineyard, this wine underwent a 40-day skin contact and matured in old, large format oak barrels. It features fresh, focused aromas of red cherries, spice, and a finesse that translates to a fresh palate with grippy tannins combined with pure fruit. Rated 95/100.
