Unveiling the Château Mouton Rothschild 2022 Label: A Celebration of Art and Elegance

By | 3 December 2024

Château Mouton Rothschild has unveiled its 2022 vintage label designed by artist Gérard Garouste. This artistic tribute marks the 100th anniversary of Baron Philippe de Rothschild’s leadership at the iconic Bordeaux winery.

In his 1981 autobiography, Baron Philippe expressed curiosity about whether anyone would commemorate his centenary. The question has now been answered with a label titled Hommage au Baron Philippe, featuring a heraldic banner that prominently displays the Baron and his emblematic ram.

Garouste, who achieved recognition as an Officer of the Legion of Honour in 2015, captures the essence of Baron Philippe through this piece. Known for his artistic work with various prominent figures, Garouste drew inspiration from personal conversations with the Baron’s grandson, Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild, and photographs of the Baron himself.

He expressed admiration for Baron Philippe’s character, depicting him as a figure of elegance with a captivating presence. The ram, a symbol rooted in both Greek and biblical traditions, is integrated seamlessly into the design along with elements representing the vineyard, highlighting Baron Philippe’s lifelong dedication to wine.

Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild praised the artwork’s dynamic energy, which depicts three significant components: the ram, the front wall of Château Mouton Rothschild, and a portrait of Baron Philippe.

This label continues the tradition established since 1945, whereby each vintage of Château Mouton Rothschild is adorned with unique artwork by renowned artists, previously including illustrious names like Salvador Dalí and Pablo Picasso.
