Exploring Walls: The Unique Blend of Côte-Rôtie and Burgundian Elegance in Winemaking

By | 11 September 2024

Tall and slender, Julien Barge captures the essence of a quintessential mad scientist with his lively eyes. His lineage has been rooted on the same street in Ampuis for two centuries, yet the sense of stability this history implies is deceptive. His is a Côte-Rôtie estate under continuous transformation.

In 2019, Julien stepped in to succeed his father Gilles, initiating significant changes to the estate’s operations. He converted their cultivation practices to organic in 2018, a move yet to become widespread in Côte-Rôtie, then tackled the issue of increasing alcohol levels in wines due to climate change.

Wines are catalogued from the most recent to the oldest vintage.
