Exploring the Elegance: Domaine de Hélène Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Vieilles Vignes Extra Brut NV Review

By | 3 June 2024

Pierre Hugot, continuing his family’s tradition of winegrowing in Cramant since 1891, honed his skills across prestigious French domains such as Comte Liger-Belair and Jean-Marc Roulot. Returning to manage the family’s modest estate in the Côtes des Blancs, he has embraced sustainable and biodynamic practices. His initial release, a 2017 vintage cuvée, limited to 2000 bottles, comes from ancient vineyards in GC’s Cramant, Avize, and Oger. It was naturally fermented and aged in both tanks and barrels. Disgorged in October 2023 with 2 g/L dosage, it presents a delicate structure and an ethereal quality, perfectly capturing the essence of Côte des Blancs with nuanced flavors of chalk, lemon, and salinity beneath a subtle reductive thread. This exquisite debut scores 94/100, marking Pierre Hugot as a vintner to keep an eye on.
