Familia Torres Unveils €6 Million Investment in a Winery Specializing in Non-Alcoholic Wines

By | 27 January 2025

Familia Torres, a leading Spanish wine producer, is making a substantial investment of €6 million (approximately £5 million) to establish a winery dedicated solely to non-alcoholic wines. This investment will take place between 2024 and 2026 at their headquarters in Pacs del Penedès, Catalonia. Notably, half of this amount will be allocated for use in 2025, highlighting the importance of this initiative within the company’s annual budget.

A Leader in Non-Alcoholic Wines

Familia Torres has been at the forefront of non-alcoholic wine production, beginning research into dealcoholisation in 2004. Their first product, Natureo White, was launched in 2008 and has since expanded to include a variety of dealcoholised wines such as Natureo Red, Natureo Rosé, Natureo Chardonnay, and Natureo Sparkling. Additionally, they offer non-alcoholic versions of their well-known Sangre de Toro range.

The company utilizes a unique spinning cone method for dealcoholisation, which involves vacuum distillation and centrifugal force to efficiently spare the wine’s original flavors and aromas while removing alcohol. This technique allows for a high-quality final product that maintains its character.

Familia Torres has stated their commitment to being a leader in the non-alcoholic wine market, a position that they have pioneered in Spain.

Market Growth and Recognition

The non-alcoholic market is booming, with industry forecasts predicting a 20% growth in 2025 for this sector. In April 2024, the company’s Natureo line achieved recognition at the Mundus Vini Non-Alcoholic competition, where it was awarded multiple medals, including two ‘Best of Show’ titles.

Growing interest in non-alcoholic beverages has led many Spanish wineries to explore this market. Alongside Familia Torres, producers like Raventós-Codorníu and Freixenet have also introduced non-alcoholic options to their portfolios, capitalizing on the increasing consumer demand and recent EU regulations that support the production of dealcoholised wines.
