Just returning from India. Even though I traveled in Economy class, my status still grants me lounge access and I was pleasantly surprised by facilities and offerings in the lounge.
On my return journey, I had a layover at Hamad International Airport in Doha. The champagne served was Lanson, which I have reviewed and liked before, and the red wine available was an excellent claret, which was perfect for that time. The airport was vast and serene, which makes me want to consider Qatar for my future travels towards the east.
While leaving, the British Airways lounge had an impressive Whispering Angel display. Remarkable marketing and brand partnership by LVMH. The lounge also served the Granito Semillon from Bouchon Family Wines, which is a sophisticated wine that is not usually poured in the airport lounges. Here are some tasting notes:
Bouchon Granito Special Edition Semillon 2019, Maule, Chile
It was bright and lively with a rocky undertone to the vibrant lemony fruit. The freshness was lovely with slight spiciness and delightful layers of citrus and mineral. It was bright, expressive with lovely fruit and texture. I would rate it 92/100.
Whispering Angel Rosé 2023 Côtes de Provence, France
The quality of this wine is surprisingly good, given the large quantities in which it is produced. Furthermore, everything from its branding to packaging is perfect. The wine itself has a very light pink color and its aroma is rich with pear drops and glacé cherries. It has a nice texture complemented by a touch of sweet fruit. The wine is easy to drink, tasty, and has a good depth to it. 89/100
Château Cos Labory 2017 St Èstephe, Bordeaux, France
This wine, a fifth growth, is ready for consumption. Even though it’s from a lesser known vintage, it tastes excellent at present with ripe, generous blackcurrant and blackberry fruit coupled with fine gravelly detail. It’s starting to show signs of evolution and is increasingly becoming elegant. The finish is chalky and mineral. 93/100
