De Lille Cellars D2 2017 from Columbia Valley, Washington State boasts an alcohol content of 14.2%. Having visited the winery in 2015, I was eager to revisit this wine with nearly eight years of bottle age.
This blend consists of 66% Merlot, 29% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Malbec. The wine presents beautifully aromatic notes with sweet red cherry and berry fruit. It’s impressively supple and fine, featuring a sweet fruit core alongside fine chalky accents. The wine strikes a remarkable balance, showcasing both elegance and a serious character.
Overall, this vintage is in a fantastic place, demonstrating ripeness and approachability, while also hinting at depth and complexity that wine enthusiasts cherish. It seems to have been underrated by critics upon its initial release. Rating: 94/100.
