On a recent Friday evening, I visited Nekter Deli, a new wine bar located in Shoreditch. Having known Nekter as a source of intriguing low-intervention wines from California, I was eager to explore their new space.
The venue is open and inviting, situated on the ground floor of a contemporary building. During the day, it operates as a deli and coffee shop, but as night falls, it transforms into a relaxed wine bar that offers a selection of food alongside a carefully curated array of wines, while also functioning as a bottle shop. The wine list is thoughtfully chosen, featuring great quality at competitive prices.
One standout from our tasting was the I Brand La Marea Grenache 2019 from California’s Central Coast. This wine, which boasts 14% alcohol content, hails from the picturesque Monterey Bay region. It presents fresh flavors of red cherries and strawberries, characterized by a sleek and elegant profile, floral nuances, and a gentle tannic structure that adds a delightful softness without compromising its form. This wine truly impressed with a score of 94/100.
I wholeheartedly recommend visiting Nekter Deli, especially as a prelude to a fun night out in Shoreditch, although it’s worth noting that licensing restrictions limit their hours, meaning it doesn’t stay open late.
