The innovative wine preservation system from Coravin, launched in 2013, has significantly impacted wine hospitality. Over the past decade, Coravin has expanded its product line, allowing restaurants and bars to enhance their wine-by-the-glass offerings without committing to full bottles. This development has encouraged a broader selection of wines for consumers.
In response to the growing trend of wine-by-the-glass programs, Coravin is releasing a digital guide named The Coravin Guide. This guide aims to showcase establishments globally that excel in offering wines by the glass, starting with venues in cities like London, Sydney, Melbourne, Milan, the Netherlands, and California, and expanding to more locations over time.
The guide will feature a new rating system for the by-the-glass wine lists that Coravin is promoting. Venues will be ranked based on the number of wines offered by the glass:
- One Glass indicates 20 to 40 wines,
- Two Glasses indicates 41 to 60,
- Three Glasses highlights more than 60 options.
Additionally, a category titled “Greg’s Hidden Gems” will spotlight unique finds from smaller, lesser-known establishments.
As Greg Lambrecht, the founder of Coravin, mentions, “Wine by-the-glass should be about discovery, not limitation.” This philosophy drives the creation of the guide, aiming to abolish the notion that wine experiences need to come with a commitment to a full bottle.
Coravin’s CEO, Dave Krupinski, also remarks on the evolution of wine consumption trends, emphasizing a growing interest in exploring quality wines rather than quantity. The Coravin Guide is designed to facilitate this exploration, featuring a comprehensive platform that connects wine lovers to venues redefining wine experiences.
Participation in the guide is free for all qualifying venues, regardless of whether they utilize Coravin systems, encouraging more establishments to showcase their wine offerings.
For more details, interested venues can register their participation on Coravin’s website.
