Exploring Precision in Wine: Carlos Raposo and the World Wild Wines of Dão, Portugal

By | 20 October 2025

Carlos Raposo, an experienced winemaker who previously worked for Niepoort from 2011 to 2018, has embarked on his own winemaking journey in the Dão region of Portugal. Based in Nelas, he launched his first vintage in 2018, creating wines that emphasize precision through early picking to maintain their definition.

Initially, Raposo produced high-end wines under the Vinhos Imperfeitos label. He has since introduced a new range known as WorldWildWines, which encompasses three tiers of offerings from Dão. According to Raposo, the essence of his wines is best appreciated on the palate rather than through aromatic profiles.

His wine collections include:

  • Impecável: A stainless steel line focused on freshness and purity.
  • Ideal: A selection of blends featuring traditional Dão grape varieties.
  • Definido: The premium tier, showcasing single-site wines.

The wines were evaluated during two separate tasting events: Simplesmente Vinhos in Porto in February 2025 and the Glu Glu festival in Coimbra in June 2025. Notable ratings for his wines include:

  • Impecável Branco 2024: Fresh with pear fruit and a grainy texture, achieving a score of 93/100.
  • Impecável Rosé 2024: A vibrant pink wine with juicy acidity from Touriga Nacional grapes, rated at 92/100.
  • Ideal Branco 2022: A blend with subtle oak influence, bright citrus notes, and a score of 92/100.
