Exploring Locals and Nomads: Lisbon’s Charming Natural Wine Bar

By | 28 June 2025

Locals and Nomads is a charming wine bar in Lisbon that emphasizes natural wines. During my recent visit, I decided to explore this hidden gem, which claims that 80% of its clientele are non-wine enthusiasts while the remaining 20% are knowledgeable aficionados.

The bar boasts an impressive selection of wines, including many natural labels sourced from outside Portugal, complemented by a menu of small plates.

Here’s a rundown of some wines I sampled during my visit:

  • Canada dos Ladroes Verdelho 2023 (Pico, Açores): This wine featured a mineral and crystalline profile with delightful citrus fruit, marked by a persistent acidity. Its focused tapering finish showcased its expressiveness, earning it a rating of 94/100.

  • Ciclo Tinto 2024 (Alentejo, Portugal): Made from Aragonez and aged in talha, this full-bodied red wine presented juicy and vivid black cherry notes. Its bright acidity and crunchy texture, along with some chalky hints reminiscent of the Loire, made it both stylish and refreshing, rated 92/100.

  • Um Tintinho NV (Alentejo, Portugal): A classic blend crafted by Antonio Macanita and Gio Chezia, this wine offered supple fresh notes of cherries and cranberries, finishing with a pleasant sour cherry and citrus peel character. It was utterly delightful, rated 93/100.

  • Rabi Branco 2021 (Douro, Magnum): Crafted by Luís Pedro of Quinta da Carolina, this 100% Rabigato wine shone with its bright and crystalline fruit, supported by solid acidity. With its mineral character and hints of pithiness, it showcased purity and harmony, earning a score of 94/100.
