Taylor’s has unveiled two remarkable releases: the Victory 80-Year-Old Tawny and the 1975 Single Harvest Port, both exemplifying the Port house’s expertise in crafting aged Tawny Ports.

Established in 1692 and now headed by Adrian Bridge, Taylor’s is renowned for its luxury Ports. Due to a scarcity in the Vintage category, there has been renewed interest in Tawny colheita styles. The recently launched 1975 Single Harvest Port marks the eighth in Taylor’s collection, with the first from 1964.

These older releases often celebrate historical occasions, particularly anniversaries linked to the British royal family. The latest release distinguishes itself by commemorating the end of World War II and the introduction of a new designation by the Port Institute for cask-aged Ports. The 80-year-old designation includes this new Victory Port, marking a significant first in this category.

Only 1,945 bottles of the Victory Port will be produced. This blend represents the culmination of various casks from Taylor’s exceptional inventory, located in Vila Nova de Gaia near Oporto. It amalgamates different vintages, combining wines from centurion casks with younger components to achieve a perfect balance of acidity and vigor. Simon Field MW, who reviewed these ports, noted the significant effort taken to ensure the final blend achieved a harmonious integration.

The Victory 80-Year-Old Tawny Port is described as lively and vibrant for its age, with a character reflecting morello cherry, fig, dark chocolate, and a richly complex palate. It concludes with an expressive finish that speaks to its quality, garnering a rating of 96.

In contrast, the 1975 Single Harvest Port displays purity and precision, showcasing spices, tobacco, and dark fruits, obtaining a review rating of 94. Both releases are remarkable not only for their flavor profiles but also for their historical significance and exceptional craftsmanship.
