2022 Willamette Valley Vintage Report: Navigating Challenges to Achieve a Stellar Year

By | 15 August 2024

The 2022 growing season in Oregon’s Willamette Valley began uncertainly but concluded on a high note.

The season commenced with an early morning frost on April 15, which inflicted considerable losses on the primary buds.

Chardonnay varieties, which ripen early, were especially affected. This was more so in the northern parts of the Willamette Valley, such as Dundee Hills and Yamhill-Carlton, where bud development was already advanced.

In the initial period following the frost, there was significant anxiety throughout the Willamette Valley. Despite the early setbacks, many winegrowers eventually reported yields in line with typical years at the season’s end.

There would be a few more twists and turns before the season was through, but – it stuck the landing.

The following wines scored 95 points or above and are listed white then red in score order.
