White Zinfandel is a category that rarely makes it to these pages (although it does get a mention in this blog post from 2016 when I commented on how Sutter Home White Zin made the fortunes of the Trinchero family). Well here’s one of merit, from Michael Cruse, who’s used Zinfandel to make a rosé-style Pet Nat with some success.

12.5% alcohol. From Eaglepoint Ranch, 4000 bottles made. This is a pale pink in colour with a hint of yellow. It’s bright, lively and energetic with nice focus to the pear and cherry fruit, with a hint of apple in the background, and an interesting texture. Moderately fizzy, which adds freshness, but also with nice spicy detail. Some yeastiness which adds to the mouthfeel and finish. 92/100
